Last time I posted (the last several times I’ve posted), I was still very conflicted about what I was going to do. I think that most of the problem is that I was so focused on the method, I was picking a method first and then trying to find an intent to go with it, which is clearly backwards. Then, I happened to be in a dollar store, and I saw these amazing compact mirrors with faceted glass covers. They came in clear and black and grey. I got one of each. (I know it’s hard to tell the black from the grey in the picture, but it’s a very “middling” grey. The perfect midpoint between the black and the clear.) Inside they have one regular mirror and one magnifying mirror (like most compacts). The back is plain, flat, shiny steel, and they have very nice, tight, spring-loaded catches. Looking at them, I just knew….
I don’t know if you remember, but my very first idea involved making talisman mirrors for each spirit. (Not binding them permanently into the mirrors (like a djinn in a bottle). Rather, a sort of pre-cast conjuration portal. Like a “hotline” to the spirit.) I’m taking this as a sign that’s the right thing to do, even though the spirits I was thinking of weren’t the right ones.
Now, as many of you know, I’ve been working on my astral projection lately (which I can sort of do, but needs to be a lot better). I’ve decided to work with three spirits, one demon, one terrestrial spirit, and and angel, to help me travel in the “lower” worlds, the “physical” world, and the “upper” worlds.
Bathin is the obvious demonic choice; the Goetia specifically recommends him as a teacher of astral travel. I’ve never worked with Bathin before, but I hear good things.
For a terrestrial spirit, I’m thinking about Eagle, whose power is to fly fast and sure, and to see all. Eagle and I are acquainted, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say we have a solid relationship yet.
The angel, I’m still not quite sure. Raphael is the guardian of travelers, so I’m leaning toward him. We have a relationship, but he’s not one of my regular “posse”. However, Jeremiel (the angel of visions) is also a possibility. Zadkiel (the angel of memory) would probably be the kosherest choice, but I’m not really feeling him. If anyone has suggestions, I’m VERY open to them.
It’s nearly Shabbat, so I’m going to see if I can get any clarity on the angel matter tonight. If I get a sure answer on the angel, I’ll start prepping the mirrors over the week. Purim (the Jewish Ishtar festival) starts as soon as Shabbat ends, and runs until sundown Sunday, so I’m pretty much “booked” as far as magic goes all weekend.
I’m going to etch a conjuration triangle on the regular mirror and a sigil for each spirit on the magnifying mirror (or possibly the other way around; anyone have thoughts on that?) I’ll also make a bag to keep each in, so they don’t get scuffed up. Probably bridal silk. Maybe velvet. I’ll see what I have on hand.
